Q&A with Dr.Shokrian
Are Fractora treatments painful?
With the use of a topical numbing cream, Fractora treatments are not generally considered to be painful. You may experience some slight discomfort during treatment, however, and your skin will be sensitive immediately following an appointment.
Can I use makeup to cover up any skin redness?
Yes, makeup can be used to cover any of the temporary side effects. Most patients need to wait only a few days to resume using makeup. If you are concerned about visible side effects, then we recommend scheduling your appointment before the weekend to allow your skin time to heal while you are away from work, school and other weekly responsibilities.
How many treatment sessions will I need to see results?
The amount of Fractora treatment sessions you need to achieve your desired results will depend on the quality of your skin and how aggressive you would like your treatments to be. Some patients only require one appointment to see significant results, while others may require up to six in order to fix more moderate to severe skin damage. Most patients fall into the three-to-six treatment range.
We will determine how many treatments your skin will need to achieve your desired results during an in-person consultation. Fractora sessions can be scheduled two to four weeks apart, and we will work with you to develop an individualized treatment plan.
Does Fractora work on my skin type?
Unlike other skin treatments, Fractora is safe for all skin types. Patients of all complexions can enjoy the beautiful results that Fractora provides without the fear of skin discoloration.
Will Fractora immediately improve my acne?
Like other skin resurfacing methods, you may experience an increase in breakouts in the weeks following your Fractora treatment. This side effect is a normal and expected part of the skin rejuvenation process, as your body works to push impurities buried deep within the dermis to the surface. Your skin may get worse before it gets better, but you can rest assured that any negative changes will be temporary. Fractora treatments shrink the oil glands that are responsible for causing acne, helping to minimize and prevent any future acne from developing.
Fractora is a revolutionary new FDA-approved skin treatment that improves skin texture and tone in as little as one session. Fractora can treat a variety of skin imperfections, including:
Fine lines and wrinkles
Skin discoloration and redness
Uneven skin texture
Unlike other fractional skin treatment methods, Fractora targets skin damage and blemishes without the common harsh side effects and lengthy downtime of its competitors. At Millennial Plastic Surgery, Dr. David Shokrian are proud to offer this exciting and effective treatment to help patients rejuvenate their skin for a vibrant and youthful appearance.
How It Works
Fractora uses radiofrequency (RF) energy to warm the skin and increase collagen and elastin production in the targeted area. An array of pins delivers the RF energy in a fractional pattern, leaving small amounts of skin untreated between the pins. This method of treatment, known as fractional resurfacing, provides the same optimal results with a quicker and easier recovery. Fractora focuses primarily on fixing damage beneath the epidermis, providing effective results without harming the surface of the skin and causing harsh side effects.
The attachments and pin-heads used during treatment can be swapped out to target varying depths of the skin. Patients can choose to undergo superficial treatments that target irregularities and impurities in the epidermis or opt for deep treatments that reach further into the skin for a more aggressive approach. Light treatments may require a series of three to six sessions to provide optimal results, while deep treatments necessitate a longer recovery but with fewer overall appointments.
Fractora treatments are completed using topical anesthesia to numb the patient. After the numbing cream has been left on the face for around one hour, the handheld Fractora device will be passed over the skin in a fractional pattern. Common treatment areas include the upper and lower eyelids, smile lines, cheeks, mouth and neck, although the entire face can be targeted at once for comprehensive skin rejuvenation.
The treatment takes about 30 minutes to complete the entire face, although the actual appointment will take longer due to the use of topical anesthesia. Multiple passes may be made over the skin using different device attachments to maximize results. Due to the customizable approach of Fractora treatments, all patients’ procedures are tailor-made to reflect their unique needs and desired results.
Recovery and Results
The skin will appear red and will be sensitive following a Fractora treatment. Common side effects include mild swelling, itchiness, light bruising and tightness. No downtime is required, although most patients spend a few days at home while their noticeable side effects continue to diminish. Skin redness following a light Fractora treatment will generally fade within three days, while redness following a deeper treatment may need up to 10 days to disappear. Side effects typically dissipate by the second week of recovery.
Results will be visible in as little as two weeks once skin redness and swelling subsides. The increased collagen and elastin production will continue to improve the skin’s texture and tone for three to six months, meaning results will develop over time. Multiple sessions are commonly required to provide optimal results from Fractora treatments. The actual timeline to achieve the patient’s desired results will be based on how many treatment sessions are necessary.
